About the Album
Self As A Drop In The Sea is a 12-track compositional electronic LP that moves fluidly between immersive atmospheres, experimental rhythm structures, and layered, evolving forms. Built from sampled acoustic instruments, granulated vocal chops, field recordings, and evolving electro-acoustic textures, the album unfolds across shifting scales of intimacy and space—oscillating between somatic interior states and vast cosmic distances. It is an energetic, emotional record about the loss of form and fixed identity, and the discovery of continuity beyond both.
Artist Bio
Brandon Benson is a Los Angeles–based composer and producer whose work lives in the in-between—organic and electronic, intimate and expansive. A mix of classically trained and unclassically brained, he approaches composition like collage, layering texture, memory, and emotion into evocative electro-acoustic soundscapes. Mild Animal is his primary outlet for compositional ambient and experimental work examining identity, consciousness, and the boundaries of nature and artifice.
Brandon also composes for film, documentary, and commercial projects, balancing formal technique with a DIY sensibility to serve each story’s emotional world. He writes and produces with other artists (Linying, Isla June, Supergloom), and is a founding member of the punk band We Are The Union.
